Call for Papers – AUBEA 2022 Conference - Global Challenges in a Disrupted World: Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Approaches in the Built Environment

The 45th Australasian Universities Building Education Association (AUBEA) conference will be held at Western Sydney University, Kingswood Campus, Sydney, Australia from 23 - 25 November 2022. AUBEA 2022 is organised this year by the School of Engineering, Design, and Built Environment in collaboration with the Centre for Smart Modern Construction, Western Sydney University. The conference will be in a hybrid format with both in-person and online attendance.

With the theme of “Global Challenges in a Disrupted World: Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Approaches in the Built Environment”, AUBEA 2022 brings together researchers, educators, students, and industry practitioners from Australia and other regions, to share knowledge, collaborate, reflect, and learn current issues and participate in shaping the future of the construction and built environment sectors.

We welcome paper submissions on a range of topics including, but not limited to:

  • Construction project management in the new normal – productivity; risk management, lean construction, stakeholder management, procurement, quality management, supply chain management, infrastructure management, and international construction and globalisation.
  • Digitalisation – Building Information Modeling (BIM), blockchain and smart contracts, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL), big data and data analytics, cloud computing, enterprise systems, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), Digital Twin, and multicriteria spatial decision support systems (GIS-based).
  • Industrialisation – automation, robotics, offsite construction, Industrialisation 4.0, 3D printing, drones, Internet of Things (IoT) and sensors, smart cities, and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA).
  • Sustainability – waste management, life cycle carbon management, environmental sustainability, social sustainability, circular economy, energy management, green buildings, and climate change.
  • Resilience – disaster management, building resilience, improving social, environmental and economic resilience.
  • Health & Safety – occupational health and safety, environmental hazards, toxic waste, risk assessment (including hazard prevention, control and management), COVID and the construction sector, mental health, and disability management.
  • Education in Built Environment – teaching, learning and assessment, Work Integrated Learning (WIL), policy, management, and governance, inclusion and diversity, disruptions, and academic work and professional development.

Important Dates:

  • Abstract Submission: 26 June 2022
  • Notification of Abstract Acceptance: 24 July 2022
  • Paper Submission: 04 September 2022
  • Paper Acceptance Notification: 02 October 2022
  • Final Paper Submission: 09 October 2022
  • Conference Dates: 23-25 November 2022

High quality papers submitted to the conference will be selected and the authors will be invited to further develop these for publication in a special issue of one of the following journals:
