Biography

Robin is a Lecturer in Paramedicine and the Academic Program Advisor for Paramedicine at Western Sydney University. Robin commenced his paramedic career in 2001 when he graduated cum laude from Durban University of Technology (DUT) with a National Diploma in Emergency Medical Care (EMC). He continued his studies with a Bachelor’s Degree in EMC at DUT, a Higher Diploma in Higher Education and Training at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, a Master of Science in Medicine (in the field of Emergency Medicine) at the University of Witwatersrand, and a PhD at the University of Adelaide.

Robin has worked in various clinical, leadership, and academic roles in numerous healthcare organisations and academic institutions for over 20 years and across six countries. This has included delivering pre- and interhospital critical care in both state and private ambulance services during some of the most turbulent periods in South Africa’s history, providing primary and tactical care with the Air Force Medical Squadron, I./Air Force Training Regiment 3 of the German Defence Force, and national and international aeromedical retrieval as well as developing and leading a Consultant Paramedic program at Hamad Medical Corporation Ambulance Service in Qatar. His career in academia has included teaching and program coordination at universities in South Africa and Australia. Robin’s research interests are in improvement science, quality/performance measurement, patient safety, and evidence/knowledge synthesis. Although his background is in prehospital emergency care, Robin’s interests are not discipline specific.

Robin is a registered paramedic and a member of the JBI Adelaide GRADE Centre as well as the Research Advisory Committee of the Australasian College of Paramedicine.
