Species Survey
The Hawkesbury-Nepean River is rich with all types of life. As part of our first report card we used a short online community survey to ask locals what animals they have seen in and along the Hawkesbury-Nepean River, specifically between Yarramundi and Sackville in the last 12 months.
Our Findings
We recorded 82 survey responses between December 2021 - February 2022. The survey recorded responses as far reaching as Penrith to Dangar Island, however, only responses between the area of focus have been presented below (with a snapshot available on our report card). The majority of locals identified these animals while walking, while some were doing water-based activities such as fishing, kayaking or swimming. These are the animals that were reportedly seen by the community:
- Echidna
- Eastern Water Dragon
- Eel
- Eagle, in particular Sea Eagle
- Kangaroo
- Pelican
- Frog, in particular Green Tree Frog
- Red Belly Black Snake
