The Board of Trustees met on 3 August 2023 in Boardroom 1, The Chancellery, Level 2, Building EB, Parramatta South campus and by Zoom.  A summary of matters discussed in the open session is provided below.

The minutes of the previous Board meeting held on 13 June 2023 were confirmed.

Main items considered by the Board:

Chancellor’s Report

The Chancellor briefed the Board on a number of matters, including international and sector related engagements in Canada, the US and Indonesia, the Foundation Forum event and the upcoming Giving Day.

Board and Committee Strategy Day Report

The Board examined the report presented regarding the Board and Committee Strategy Day held on 14 June. The report highlighted the key takeaways from the event, and the Board approved a comprehensive recommendation that will provide the University's focus for the next decade.

Vice-Chancellor’s Report

During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor provided a number of updates to the Board. These included the Australian Universities Accord, the Foundation Forum, the announcement of Fairfield Connect, recent Ministerial changes, the University's response to the parliamentary response to  AI, the University's involvement in the National Redress Scheme, progress made in Transnational Education (TNE), the University's achievements in the Walkley Award and Pascall Prize for Arts Criticism, the official opening of the First Peoples Walk at Kingswood, and updates on rankings, cyber security, and staffing.

Chair of Academic Senate Report

The Chair of Academic Senate spoke to the Board on a number of matters presented at the most recent Academic Senate meeting, including the Vice-Chancellor’s/Chair of Academic Senate Forum on the Universities Accord, engagement with the Committee of Chairs of Academic Boards and Senate (CoCABS), and the quality assurance process to improve reporting capabilities.

The Indigenous Voice to Parliament

The Board of Trustees agreed to issue a statement in support for the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

Sustaining Success 2021-2026: In-Depth Analysis and Reporting

The Board received an in-depth analysis of two of the Sustaining Success 2021 – 2026 key performance measures, being key measure 6 (Improve our research quality and impact), key measure 7 (Increase the retention of our domestic and international students and the quality and employability of our graduates), andkey measure 10 (Expand the proportion of curricula and microcredentials that are co-created with industry and community partners).

Universities Accord

The Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost lead a strategic information session with the Board on the University’s response to the Interim Report from the Australian Universities Accord.
