Supporting our Students

Students at Western Sydney University are often more than just students – some hold down multiple jobs, many are raising families, while others are determined to beat the odds despite experiencing social and economic disadvantage.

The reality is...

  • 30% of our students work more than 20 hours a week, while studying
  • 7,500 students are from disadvantaged areas, and over 550 come from a refugee background
  • 65% of our students are the first in their family to attend university

Our students, like the people of Western Sydney, are passionate and determined to succeed, UNLIMITED by their back story.

Find out more about our community scholarship recipients here.

Since 2012, with the generous support of staff, student, and alumni donors, 114 Western Sydney University Community Scholarships have been awarded to students. Each scholarship, now valued at $6,000 per year, is awarded to students who demonstrate significant hardship and the determination to further themselves, their family, and their community through education.

University Matched Funding

The University is committed to providing opportunities for students and matches dollar-for-dollar all donations from staff to scholarships. This means that whatever you give will have double the impact, with a considerably smaller reduction to net salary. For example, a fortnightly payroll donation of $5 has the impact of $10 with matched funding, and an actual approximate net-outlay of $3.38*.

If every staff member gave just $5 per fortnight, with matched funding, 120 additional students could be supported each year with a scholarship.

*assumes 32.5% tax rate – salary of $37,001-$80,000.
