NICM PhD candidate and naturopath Susan Arentz awarded student of the year

Congratulations to NICM PhD student and naturopath, Susan Arentz recipient of the inaugural ATMS and Nature and Health Award for 2015 Student of the Year.

The joint initiative by the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS) and Nature and Health magazine recognises the practices, professionals and rising-star students that contribute to the industry's growth and prosperity.  Winning nominations demonstrated excellence in their field, and significant contributions to the Australians wellness community, profession and industry.

"Susan's commitment and contribution to the profession has been to undertake high quality research to examine the evidence base for naturopathy with the management of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), said Professor Caroline Smith, NICM PhD supervisor.

"Her work been published and communicated at scientific conferences and further findings are to be disseminated in the coming year."

Susan's thesis comprised of a review of the evidence of the herbal medicines, a survey of the use of complementary medicine by women with PCOS, and a clinical trial evaluating the effects of a combined herbal and nutritional supplement compared with first line conventional medical management of PCOS.
