Consistently climbing in global rankings

Western Sydney University has secured its position amongst the world’s top universities, placing an impressive third overall in the 2020 Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings(opens in a new window) released in April. The rankings are based on research, outreach and stewardship and is the only ranking system in the world to assess higher education’s sustainability impact working towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The University’s achievement demonstrates a significant improvement from being ranked 11th in the world last year from 450 universities to now third amongst 800 universities. Western Sydney University is also ranked in the top five worldwide for six of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This includes placing second worldwide for the categories of Gender Equality, and Life on the Land.

In addition, in June, Western Sydney University has continued to improve its world standing in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings,(opens in a new window) moving up 22 places as equal 36th in the world rankings, which assess universities across the world that are 50 years old or younger.

These rankings highlight Western Sydney University’s ongoing commitment to being a truly world-class university recognised globally for its research strengths, its engagement with business and industry, and its innovative approach to teaching.
