NICM congratulates and farewells visiting scholars

21 December 2015

As we come to the year end, we say goodbye, congratulations and thank you to two visiting scholars, PhD student of Beijing University, Kathy He, and Dr Lily Li, oncologist and visiting scholar from Beijing University Cancer Hospital.

Supported by Beijing University under an overseas visiting scholarship for a three month period, Kathy arrived at NICM in September and returned to China this week.  Kathy is a PhD student with the Beijing University Cancer Hospital Oncology Department, under the supervision of Professor Pingping Li.  During her time with NICM, Kathy conducted a chemical analysis study for a Chinese herbal medicine used in the management of chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy.  Kathy plans to continue her research in this direction.

The research collaboration between NICM and the Beijing University Cancer Hospital provided an opportunity for Dr Lily Li to come to Australia as a visiting scholar in December 2014.  Her research project involved conducting a systematic literature review on the use of Chinese herbal medicine for hot flushes induced by endocrine therapy in women with breast cancer. Dr Li assisted in the design of a randomised control trial soon to be commenced and was involved in teaching in the Master’s program in Chinese Medicine.

Dr Li has recently returned to China, and is currently working on a joint publication, and planning to work further collaborative p
rojects in the field of breast cancer.
