Foundation donors celebrate 10 years of supporting the School of Medicine

Narellan Rotary Club Members

The School of Medicine have celebrated over a decade of support from the Rotary Club of Narellan, who first made a pledge to support in 2006, before the School was even operational.

To date the club has supported ten medical students on their journey to become medical professionals in the Western Sydney Region. Scholarships empower our students to achieve their dream of completing a tertiary education. The long journey to complete a medical degree is often a path that is both long and demanding with placements at rural locations and many expensive textbooks and resources needed to complete the degree. The support a scholarship can provide can be life-changing to a student's experience at university.

The Rotary Club of Narellan also support research at Western Sydney University, donating over $100,000 to fund ground breaking research into Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Almost 24,000 Australians know what it's like to live with MS. The team of researchers at Western Sydney University's School of Medicine are testing the hypothesis that MS actually initiates as a degenerative condition of the central nervous system, rather than an autoimmune disorder as it's commonly understood. The results of this research could change the way the condition is diagnosed and treated.

Funding local projects close to home in Western Sydney is at the heart of the Rotary Club of Narellan. The members of the club continue to want to support young people and to give the region home-grown doctors.

Western Sydney University, School of Medicine will celebrate 10 years of providing medical education to students in Western Sydney in 2017.
