Sorting emails in Microsoft Outlook

To sort your emails, you simply click on the header and select your sort option, for example, click on the From header to sort in alphabetical order.

Click on the header again to sort in the opposite direction (in reverse alphabetical order).

As well as your emails, you can use the same method to sort your Contacts, Tasks and other Outlook items.

Sometimes, though, one header is not enough. In that case, you can sort your items by up to four headings.

To sort by more than one heading:

  • click the first heading to sort by
  • press and hold the Shift key and click on the second (and consequent) heading.

For example, in your Inbox, click the From header then hold the shift key and click Received header. This will arrange each person in received date order as well.
