Closing a laptop lid
There are settings that allow you to change what happens when you close the lid of a Laptop. You can Close Down, put the Laptop into Hibernate mode or simply Do Nothing.
For example, if you use a separate Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse and set the close to
Do Nothing, then after you boot up you can close the lid and continue working, without the distraction of a second smaller screen. Following are the settings in Win7 & Vista.
Win 7
- From the Start menu, choose Control Panel
- Make sure the View by: (top right) is set to Category
- Click System and Security
- Choose Power Options
- Click on Choose what closing the lid does in the left pane
- Next to When I close the lid: choose an option from the list
- Click Save Changes
Vista
- From the Start menu, choose Control Panel
- Make sure Classic View (Top left) is chosen
- Choose Power Options
- Click on Choose what closing the lid does in the left pane
- Next to When I close the lid: choose an option from the list in both categories
- Click Save Changes
