Events and Opportunities

Solar Information Session: June 2021

We hosted two Hawkesbury Solar Information Sessions in partnership with the Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre, Hawkesbury Climate Action Network and Hawkesbury City Council. The workshops, held over Zoom, provided independant expert advice and personal solar experiences of local residents were shared with attendees. Missed the workshop? We have complied a list of useful solar related resource (PDF, 160.62 KB) (opens in a new window) for Hawkesbury residents that was cirrculated during the workshops for you to access.

Neighbourhood Workshops: May - December 2021

Hawkesbury residents are coming together through the Hawkesbury Resilience Project, “Learn, Prevent, Prepare: Community Action for a Resilient Hawkesbury”, to help build our capacity to cope with increasingly extreme weather events, such as fires, floods and storms. The purpose of the facilitated workshop is to give you an opportunity to connect with your neighbours, hear and discuss your climate concerns, and as a community take practical action.

Our first neighbour workshop was held in May for residents of East Kurrajong held at Kurrajong East Public School. Further neighbourhood workshops will be held in 2021 for residents of other Hawkesbury suburbs in the coming months.

Climate Conversation Volunteer Training: February 2021

Twleve volunteers (all Hawkesbury locals) have been now been trained to host with one-on-one conversations with Hawkesbury residents. The aim is to facilitate conversations between residents about how people feel about climate change, how it is affecting the Hawkesbury region and community, and how Hawkesbury residents could respond to it.

Keep a look out online or in your letterbox for your invitation to have a climate conversation with one of our trained volunteers.

You might also be interested in our Climate Conversations Training - Facilitators Guide (PDF, 418.52 KB) (opens in a new window). Our guide provides the facilitators with information, structure and activities for both workshops. We hosted 2 three-hour workshops that will cover: purpose of the project, how to engage and connect about climate change, the structure of the conversation, how to approach challenges that may occur, and available resources.

Project Launch and Regional Forum: November 2020

Funded by the NSW Government through an AdaptNSW Community Grant from Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE), the team held our first virtual community forum in November 2020 with over 60 residents from the Hawkesbury (and beyond). The virtual forum explored community resilience to climate events, including fire, drought, heat waves and floods through expert speakers and personal stories of two local residents. Attendees were also given a first look at the Hawkesbury Resilience Project Map that identifies local groups and organisations contributing to resilience in the Hawkesbury. The map is now live and accessible to the wider public for use.

Hawkesbury City Council also showcased their new Disaster and Emergency Dashboard (opens in a new window). Provided by Local Government NSW’s Increasing Resilience to Climate Change Grant Program, the Disaster and Emergency Dashboard is part of Council’s suite of information services. The dasboard provides live updates on road conditions, weather warnings, fire incidents, power outages, flood alerts, bush fire alerts and school closures, all in one convenient location.

The forum was the first step in engaging the local community, with many more opportunities coming up for residents.
