Access to/Retrieval of Records

There are two key types of access that need to be addressed for your records: internal access by other staff within the University; and external access by members of the public, students, etc.

It is important that you protect information from any unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, deletion, alteration and/or destruction. The Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act provides strict standards that regulate the collection, storage, use and disclosure of personal information. Many of these protection measures should also be applied to information other than personal information. This can include financial or commercially sensitive information, information given in confidence, information relating to an investigation; and information posing a security risk.
