It is with great sadness and respect, that we share the news of the passing of Dr Judith Mary Jacka, Founder of the Jacka Foundation of Natural Therapies, a distinguished individual, philanthropist and inspirational pioneer in natural therapies and complementary medicine. Judy passed away in the early hours of 1 March 2022. She was 83.

A Q&A with Dr Bhuyan on his career, new challenges ahead and some of the topics his team will work on in 2022 and beyond. Dr Bhuyan is a Research Support Program Fellow, Health Ageing at NICM Health Research Institute. He joined the institute in 2018 as an ARC Postdoctoral Research Fellow. His current research centres on the development of novel gut microbiota-based anticancer therapies and deciphering their molecular mechanisms of action. Furthermore, he is currently working on developing natural product-based therapies for bacterial and viral diseases.

It has been uplifting to see the vaccination response in Australia, and NSW particularly, which is enabling us to ease restrictions and re-open the state again. With the festive season upon us, I am sure many will join me in welcoming the holiday break, the long-awaited opportunity to reconnect with family, possibly travel, and take the time to recharge and re-energise. Western Sydney University is pleased to announce a new partnership between the University and Next Practice to establish Next Practice care of Western Sydney Integrative Health (WSIH) – Australia’s first university-based integrative healthcare centre. Located as part of Western Sydney University’s Westmead campus, and within the heart of the Westmead Health and Innovation Precinct, the purpose-built clinic will be open to the public, initially five days a week, 8am-5pm.

A Q&A with Dr Carolyn Ee on her career, new challenges ahead and some of the topics her team will work on in 2022 and beyond. Dr Ee is the Jacka Foundation Senior Research Fellow at NICM Health Research Institute, and has been with the Institute since 2016. She is also a Fellow of the RACGP who practises integrative medicine and a registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner and medical acupuncturist with a PhD in acupuncture from the University of Melbourne.
