NICM researchers present at RACGP Conference, GP19

Dr Carolyn Ee, Jacka Foundation Senior Research Fellow at NICM and Chair of the RACGP Integrative Medicine Specific Interest Group, together with Michael de Manincor, Post-doctoral Research Fellow, NICM, and Dr Ashlea Broomfield, GP Toormina and Sawtell Medical Centre, ran an Active Learning Module day on 23 October during the annual Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)(opens in a new window) Conference, GP19.

More than 1,700 delegates from all corners of the nation converged in Adelaide for the GP19 conference. The interactive workshop presented by NICM researchers and Dr Broomfield ‘GP Wellbeing: Looking after myself and looking after my patients’ was designed to allow participants to explore evidence-based strategies to optimise their own wellbeing. The workshop incorporated a grounding in mindfulness techniques and a focus of compassion to self, others and patients.

The workshop followed the RACGP General Practice: Health of the Nation Report 2019 which focused on GP wellbeing and found GPs are avoiding or delaying(opens in a new window) seeking their own healthcare for a range of issues, in addition to the 2019 Beyondblue National Mental Health survey of doctors and medical students report which found doctors had much higher rates of psychological distress compared to both the Australian population and other Australian professionals.
