Western Sydney University rises 21 places in latest world ranking
Western Sydney University has excelled in the recent prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), moving into the top 350 universities worldwide.
The University has significantly improved on its 2020 position, moving 21 places to be 346th in the world and 20th in Australia.
The ARWU is published by ShanghaiRankings, and assesses universities across the globe on the quality of their research.
Rankings indicators include the number of highly cited researchers, the number of articles published in prestigious publications, such as Nature and Science, as well as the number of citation indexed publications.
Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO, welcomed the latest rankings achievement.
“It is pleasing to see the University significantly strengthen its position in these highly-regarded rankings and continue to be recognised internationally for our research excellence,” said Professor Glover.
“Importantly, the improvements were evident across all the categories of assessment, the result of our sustained program focussing on our research. I congratulate all our researchers and staff who have supported this great outcome.”
The rankings add to the University’s impressive list of credentials and recognition as a world leader in education, research and innovation.
This includes being ranked in the top 2 per cent of universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings; 6th in Australia and 34th in the world in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings; 17th in the world in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings; and top 500 in the QS World University Rankings.
