Western Sydney University’s premier honour for Mike Baird

Western Sydney University will award former Premier of New South Wales, Mike Baird, an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in recognition of his service to Western Sydney and the broader community.

Vice-Chancellor and President of Western Sydney University, Professor Barney Glover, said the University will bestow the honorary award for Mike Baird’s substantive efforts in delivering much needed jobs growth, investment and community development to the Western Sydney region.

“As the 44th Premier of New South Wales, Mike Baird was the driver behind meaningful reform and economic stimulus, and recognised the importance of our region to this. He instigated significant infrastructure projects, including Metro West, WestConnex and Parramatta Light Rail, which will completely change Western Sydney,” said Professor Glover.

Acknowledging the award, Mr Baird said, “During my time as NSW Premier and Minister for Western Sydney, I had the privilege of working with the diverse and passionate community of Western Sydney. The region is a key driver for the state’s economic growth, and I look forward to seeing it develop into one of the most significant cities in Australia.”

Mr Baird entered Parliament as the Member for Manly in 2007, and served as Treasurer from March 2011 prior to his appointment as NSW Premier in April 2014. Mr Baird is currently the Chief Customer Officer for Corporate and Institutional Banking at the National Australia Bank, where he began his career as a graduate in 1989.

Mike Baird will be awarded with an  Honorary Doctorate at Western Sydney University’s graduation ceremony, 12.00pm on Monday, 30 May 2018 at the University’s Parramatta South campus.
