Western Sydney University celebrates ‘Each for Equal’

On International Women’s Day Western Sydney University acknowledges the achievements and impact of women within our University community and across the globe.

Professor Denise Kirkpatrick, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Acting), said International Women’s Day is an important opportunity to acknowledge the progress Western Sydney University has made as a leader in gender equality.

“Western Sydney University is committed to maintaining our gender-inclusive culture. Through our strategies, programs and initiatives we are contributing to gender equality within the University and in the broader community,” said Professor Kirkpatrick.

“Today we celebrate our progress, but we know more needs to be done to ensure women have equal opportunities in education, their careers and their personal lives.”

The University was recently named an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (opens in a new window) for the 15th consecutive year. It is proud to promote gender equity in all disciplines through a variety of programs including Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Program (opens in a new window), for which the University recently received an Athena SWAN Institutional Bronze Award(opens in a new window), and the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Program (opens in a new window).

Ranked number one in the world for addressing gender equality, and second for reducing inequalities according to the Times Higher Education 2019 Impact rankings, the University is the United Nations Academic Impact Sustainable Development Goals global hub (opens in a new window) for reducing inequality.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is 'Each for Equal'. The University joins those calling for a gender-equal world, where women’s achievements are valued and visible, and where inequality is called out.
