Luke Streher was awarded a University Medal when he graduated at the University of Western Sydney's Spring ceremonies on 26 September with a Bachelor of Business and Commerce (Honours).

At high school, Luke had a keen interest in business so it was only natural that he selected a business degree.

“I chose the Bachelor of Business and Commerce because it was the only university to have such a strong focus on international marketing, which I was really interested in pursuing,” says Luke.

Luke excelled in his degree, and as a result was offered the opportunity to complete an Honours year.

“For my Honours project, I chose to look at how businesses that went from Australia to other countries and how they used their relationships and networks to establish themselves in that country," he says.

“The project taught that, when conducting business between cultures, relationships are extremely important.”

Luke says his Honours year opened his eyes up to the world of relationship/network marketing and he developed a keen interested in the area.

“Doing Honours gave me the skills and the knowledge that you don’t get from doing a coursework degree. I was able to conduct research and apply the knowledge that I had gained from my Bachelor degree, but I was also able to learn and grow from the experience.”

Since completing his degree, Luke is working at a media company in marketing.

“I would like to do a PhD one day, but I wouldn’t have thought about it if I didn’t do an Honours project. Being able to research a specific area really opened my eyes up to what I could do.”
