Courses

Bachelor of Science (Nutrition and Food Sciences) or the Bachelor of Science (Advanced Science) with a key program in Nutrition and Food Sciences

Criteria

Applicants must:

  • be Australian citizens, permanent residents or on a humanitarian visa
  • be commencing study or be currently enrolled in any year of the Bachelor of Science (Nutrition and Food Sciences) or the Bachelor of Science (Advanced Science) with a key program in Nutrition and Food Sciences at Western Sydney University. Applications will be welcomed from commencing students whether from the HSC or alternative pathways including TAFE or those completing the Diploma of Science or the Diploma of Science/Bachelor of Science at The College.

Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate equity considerations such as economic, social or other disadvantage, based on equity considerations as assessed by Western Sydney University. Equity considerations may include being the first in family to attend university.

Preference will be given to applicants who have studied Science and 2 Unit Mathematics (or higher) in their Higher School Certificate.

The Hourigan family

The Hourigan family has a strong connection with Western Sydney University. Dr Jim Hourigan was an academic staff member in food sciences at the Hawkesbury Campus for four decades. Several family members have had successful careers after graduating from Western Sydney University. The family wishes to support access to education in Western Sydney.

Applications and Selection Process

Applicants must provide a statement in support of their application indicating how they believe the receipt of the scholarship will assist them with their studies and in their future career. This statement should give a sufficient explanation of the applicant's background and current circumstances to enable the University to judge their eligibility, need and merit.

Successful applicants will be selected based on their written application, academic potential, their ability to meet the criteria and, where appropriate, performance in an interview before a selection panel.
