Project Background

In late 2015, the University followed a rigorous tender evaluation process to find a partner from which to source a Managed Private Cloud (MPC) service. Following that process, DXC was awarded the contract in Dec 2016.  In parallel with the market approach, an internal total cost of ownership (TCO) exercise was completed and was subsequently reviewed and refined in collaboration with the Manager, Corporate Finances from the Office of Commercial and Estate Planning.

The establishment of the Atlas MPC was completed on 24th July 2017, which included the completion of several streams of work. The initial infrastructure setup was completed by May 2017, which saw the setup of University specific racks, network equipment and servers in the DXC Aurora Data Centre at Eastern Creek. The Atlas MPC service commencement also saw the establishment of the Service Desk at DXC.

Our first migrations to this service occurred in July 2017 and new workload builds shortly thereafter. A migration consists of moving workload from the University’s internally managed servers to the MPC
