Giles Lane is an artist, designer and researcher, and the founder of Proboscis (opens in a new window). Since 1994 he has led Proboscis, developing a creative practice that is renowned for its pioneering work in fusing emerging technologies with social and cultural concerns. Giles has been instrumental in establishing numerous groundbreaking collaborations across disciplines and sectors, bridging grassroots communities with government, industry, academia and NGOs and the arts. He is currently an Honorary Research Associate of the Extreme Citizen Science Research Group at University College London. Giles is currently collaborating with Professor James Leach (University of Western Australia/CNRS CREDO, Marseille) to co-design a toolkit for recording and sharing traditional biocultural knowledge with villagers of Reite in Madang Province, Papua New Guinea.
