The Western Foundational Processes of Behaviour Research Laboratories host world-class research focused on uncovering the fundamental mechanisms of the human brain and behaviour.

We seek to understand human behaviour at multiple levels and across time. These levels include outward behaviour, brain activity, physiological activity, cognitive behaviour, etc. The group has a heavy focus on experimental methods, which often allow the strongest causal conclusions. Longitudinal research is also implemented to assess causality and to understand the mechanics of change. Our goal is to evaluate and develop foundational theories that have scope and depth. Scope means a given analytic concept applies to a range of cases, and depth means analytic concepts cohere across well-established scientific domains (e.g., social psychology, individual psychology, cognitive psychology, biology).
