Changing your personal details
Important Information
The University requires that your full legal name as appears on your Birth Certificate/Passport/Australian Citizenship Certificate is recorded on your University record.
If an update to your personal details is required, please ensure you also update your new details with the Australian Taxation Office and with the Unique Student Identifier office.
Address and contact details
In My Student Records (MySR) (opens in a new window) select the 'Update your details' link on the home page. Check that your address and contact information is correct and up to date and make sure your mobile phone number is listed in the correct field so you can be contacted via SMS in emergencies. If an update to your personal details was made, please ensure you also update your new details with the Australian Taxation Office and with the Unique Student Identifier office.
Name, date of birth, country of birth and sex
You can also check your name, gender, sex and date of birth in the Personal Details section of My Student Records (MySR) (opens in a new window).
You can easily update your preferred name and gender online. However, if any other details are inaccurate, you will be required to submit a Change of Personal Details form along with the necessary supporting documentation. Supporting documents originating from a foreign country must be certified*.
Your submission must include documentary evidence of the change to name or date of birth. Accepted documents for such changes include:
- Birth Certificate showing legal name at birth issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages
- Marriage Certificate issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages
- Deed Poll
- Change of Name Certificate issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages
- Divorce Decree
- A valid Australian Government travel document, such as a Passport or ImmiCard
- Current International Passport
- Australian Citizenship Certificate
- Current Driver Licence - only acceptable for change of date of birth, only to correct spelling or to add a middle name.
Please note commemorative or ceremonial certificates of any type are not acceptable.
If you are updating your sex, you must also include documentary evidence of this change. Accepted documentation for a change of sex includes:
- Birth Certificate showing the change of sex
- A statement from a registered medical practitioner or a registered psychologist (general registration)
- Change of Name Certificate issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages
- A valid Australian Government travel document, such as a Passport or ImmiCard, which specifies the preferred sex.
Former students can lodge a Change of Personal Details form here.
* A certified copy of a document is a photocopy of the original document that has been certified by a qualified witness as being "A True Copy Of The Original." A list of qualified witnesses and details on how documents need to be certified is available on the certifying documents page.
