Campbelltown Rotary Observatory

The observatory is used for research and is the home of the Australian Optical SETI (OZ OSETI) Project. It is the only dedicated optical SETI project in the Southern Hemisphere.  It is searching for nanosecond laser pulses from outer space with very sensitive and sophisticated equipment. In December 2008 it picked up a mysterious pulsed laser look alike signal from outer space.

The observatory is also used for Advanced Engineering student projects. One of the domes is being developed as a robotic observatory.

From time-to-time the observatory runs astronomy nights for the public with the Macarthur Astronomical Society. For details, please see Macarthur Astronomical Society Inc. (opens in a new window)or the press releases in the local media.
