A Q&A with Dr Yang on her career, new challenges ahead and some of the topics her team will work on in 2023 and beyond. Dr Yang is a Research Support Program Fellow, Health Ageing at NICM Health Research Institute. Her research explores the effectiveness and safety of complementary medicines, including Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, and tai chi, in the treatment of chronic illness such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and mild cognitive impairment.

Western Sydney University and the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India announced today the appointment of a Joint Academic Chair in Ayurveda. The new position aims to build capacity for the scientific evaluation of Ayurvedic medicine and aligned inventions such as Ayurveda herbal medicine, yoga and meditation.

Endometriosis is a painful condition that affects around one in nine women and people assigned female at birth. There are currently no known cure but symptoms can be managed with surgery, medications, hormonal treatments, pelvic physiotherapy and complementary therapies such as acupuncture.

Today marks the official launch of the ‘Integrative Oncology and Wellness Centres in Cancer Care’ white paper, by Hon. Ged Kearney MP, Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care at Parliament House, Canberra. This inaugural white paper validates the services of Integrative Oncology and Wellness Centres and provides a framework of recommendations to truly realise their potential.

NICM Health Research Institute has been identified as Australia’s top research institution in the field of Alternative and Traditional Medicine in The Australian Research 2023 Magazine published today. NICM HRI’s Professor Jerome Sarris was also named as top researcher for the discipline of Natural Medicines and Medicinal Plants.
