Vision
To be a world-leading industry-focused construction research and training centre utilising concepts and technologies brought forward by the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Mission
To contribute to the development of a smart modern construction industry that is capable of dealing with the challenges of sustainability, digitalisation, industrialisation, supply chain, resilience, design, management & economics, and education, which are proactively responded to through academic, industry, professional bodies and government collaboration.

Report Launch: Leveraging Digital Technologies to Boost Productivity in Construction
The Centre for Smart Modern Construction (c4SMC) at the School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment, in collaboration with the The Centre for Smart Modern Construction, in collaboration with the Australian Public Policy Institute (APPI), will launch the DigiCon Policy Directions Framework Report on 8 December 2025. This landmark initiative will present strategic insights to advance digital transformation, productivity, and innovation across the construction sector in New South Wales.
Digital Built Environment Research Colloquium 2025: Strengthening Research Collaboration

The Centre for Smart Modern Construction (c4SMC) at the School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment, in collaboration with the ARC Centre for Next-Generation Architectural Manufacturing (Arch_Manu) at the University of New South Wales, hosted the Digital Built Environment Research Colloquium 2025 on 14 March 2025 at Western Sydney University’s Parramatta City Campus. This dynamic event provided a collaborative platform for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers from both centres to exchange ideas, explore recent advancements, and foster potential research partnerships in the digital built environment.
Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Research, Training and Supervision 2024: Professor Srinath Perera

Professor Srinath Perera received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Research, Training and Supervision at the Western Sydney University Excellence Awards Ceremony, held on 12 December 2024. He was selected from among seven nominees.
